Narrative Short, 9 minutes
An overworked soccer player gives her all in a beep test, only to find that impressing the coach is harder than she thought.
Director Statement
In crafting Beep Test, I sought to illuminate the multifaceted challenges women athletes face, particularly soccer players navigating the high-stakes competitive sports environment. This film delves into the intense pressures exerted by coaches and peers, revealing how these external demands can undermine an athlete's sense of self.
Beep Test is more than a film; it is an extension of my struggles and triumphs within the sport. My transition from a professional soccer player in Pakistan into filmmaking was driven by a desire to capture and convey the nuanced realities of athletic life that I know all too well. Through this project, I aim to shed light on the often-unseen pressures soccer players face and advocate for a more empathetic and supportive environment in sports.
This film is both a reflection of my journey and a call for change, hoping to inspire greater understanding and reform within the sporting world.
